Everything about this sophisticated wine impresses from the beginning including the dense purple color, the aromas of lavender and creme de cassis, and the ULTRA silky smooth texture. Captivating flavors include a luscious symphony of ripe plums, blackberries, and deep dark chocolate and mocha in the mid-palate. The sensuous finish crescendos with a hint of savory spices including truffle, cherries and flawlessly integrated toasty oak flavors that bode well for aging at least 5 – 7 years; peaking around 2014 in our estimate. BRAVO! 95+ points. Only 56 cases bottled” THE WINE INSIDERS

After sampling, we can guarantee you that this transcendent interpretation of classic Spanish Grenache combines the plush and luscious jammy fruit fans of Napa Cabernets adore with the exotic aromatics and age-worthiness serious wine collectors admire about European treasures. The seductive Aquilon has a splendid perfume of slate, violets, and cherry compote. The off the chart intensity will fool many into thinking this blockbuster wine is from the New World. But the beautiful integration of oak, tannin, and acidity, a smooth texture, layers of flavor, and exceptional length will have you thinking its from another world. This is an absolutely stunning wine well worth a few slots in any serious wine collectors cellar. Drink now after decanting (1 hour) or anytime over the next 10 years, peaking in 2014 in our estimate.

THE WINE INSIDERS TASTING NOTES:
This 2006 Ravenous is a powerful sensation, BIG on fruit, that combines the best characteristics of Cabernet Sauvignon with a dollop of Petit Sirah to give it the exotic “X” factor + guarantee age worthy extravagance. Concentrated crème de cassis, licorice, and inky blackberry elicited from the Petite Sirah, mixed with all the power of the mocha, currant, dark chocolate, and blueberry from the Cabernet Sauvignon, with a hint of tobacco creates a smooth and silky tannin structure that finishes well in the palate. Will be at its peak between 2010-2013.

Big and rich, with thick layers of espresso, chocolate, dark berries, tobacco, cedar box, currants, truffle and gorgeous minerality this wine way over-delivers on value. Voluptuous tannins and a 30+ second finish round out a fantastic Napa Cabernet. HIGHLY recommend!

Twomey Pinot Noir 2006
For the last few years, Silver Oak has been quietly crafting a boutique Pinot Noir sourced from historic vineyards near the original Williams Selyem in the prized Russian River Valley of Sonoma. Today, Porthos is finally able to offer this wine online. This is a big fleshy Pinot with exotic flavors built to age but it will drink beautifully now if decanted for an hour.
Apart from their acclaimed Merlot, Twomey’s wines are generally only available via their mailing list or at the winery’s tasting rooms in Napa and Sonoma.

Orin Swift Papillon Cabernet
THE WINE INSIDERS “94+” Rating: “We just sampled this exciting new release, even more luscious than the last vintage, and proclaim it to be a true thriller for tonight or anytime over the next 5 years. Rich and savory, this Cabernet blend (65% CS, 27% Merlot, 2% Cab Franc, 4% Petite Verdot, and 2% Malbec) glides lightly across your palate and features soft layers of dark cherry, ripe sweet plums, anise, toffee, cocoa, rich smoky oak and a hint of milk chocolate truffles on the luscious finish. While this BIG wine is delicious tonight (after 1/2 hour decanting) we estimate it will peak in 2012 – 2014.”

We love this new discovery because it captures the best of both ‘worlds’ from Oregon + California Pinot Noir! Rich, supple and graceful with captivating aromas of blackberry and bright cherry, perfumed with typical Oregon minerality, cinnamon and lavender oil with distinctly robust ‘California style’ fruit flavors (after decanting one hour). An expressive, open textured palate is layered with succulent sweet red fruit with hints of peppercorn and spice. The refined and lithe tannins last beautifully on the palate with a poised and polished finish. This sensational new discovery is guaranteed to thrill for the next 3 – 5 years, peaking around 2014 in our estimate. 94 points

ADRIAN FOG “OPPENLANDER” PINOT NOIR 2006
This deliciously opulent creation is guaranteed to impress anyone who still thinks Pinot is a “wimpy” wine. This wine is a truly rambunctious red and 100% unfiltered ’boutique’ production (less than 300 cases!). While we cannot share the full story about the name of this winery it is highly amusing: let’s just say it involves proprietor Stewart Dorman’s earlier affinity for a certain B Movie actress and a forgettable film named The Fog. Today, Stewart is earning straight A (!) grades for his hand crafted Pinot Noir.
